I have noticed that my inverter box seems to be a little warm when I leave my lathe plugged in (not running).

Have any of you experienced this? Is this normal?

I hadn't thought about it, so I went out and checked out my 3520A model that is 7 years old (it has a fan under the inverter for when it over heats). The unit was warmer than air temp and I haven't tuirned anything yet today. I never have unplugged it before, other than for moving it, and it hasn't done anything that I know of.

It's always a good idea to have an inline on off switch installed. Or you can just unplug it when not in use. It is electronics and heat will shorten it's life span not to mention an electical storm can reek havoc. I would rather play it safe. An inline switch is easy to install.

I don't have the same machine, but I tend to use the cut-off switch on the back of my Stubby when I'm not involved in a project. That removes power from the electronics completely on my machine.
