View Full Version : A floater... The TV stand saga..

I had been working on some custom designs when I was asked to build a TV stand for a client. I showed them one of my new designs and tried to hide the fact that I was dying to make it. I didn't want them to think I was "pushing" it on them. Anyway, they really liked it. They already had some Mission pieces in their house, so even with the touch of contemporary flare, this one fit in well...

My attempt with this design was to give the illusion that the individual cabinets are "floating" inside...

Thanks for taking a look. I would really love to make this one again out of a lighter colored wood.

I have always liked this particular piece. As you recall, I saw this one in person. It looked amazing then just as it does now. Thanks for the pics.....

I really like the piece too... I know it seems to be non-PC to point this out -- but one question "Who's going to dust all those open dust collecting areas??"

I am real form & function guy too. I see that in my house filling up each week with pet hair (as the dogs chase the cat into it), dust and spider webs.. then a fair amount of time every week or two for major dusting, cleaning ... Love the art, abhor the maintenance ...

Nice work,

I would say that the illusion you were trying to accomplish turned out perfectly.

Same thoughts, Michael. Looks great, but I'm glad I don't have to dust it.

I also would expect my kids to stick books, tapes, and toys into the gaps as well. So this piece might be best suited to a place w/out small children.

If you buy a long hair cat and train the dogs properly, the dusting will get done via the chase.
