I had a little excitement with this one. While taking a break from the burning on the rim, I was buffing another piece and noticed my shop start to fill up with smoke ! The embers from the burning had landed in the huge pile of shavings under and behind the lathe and had 3 or 4 little smoldering spots going. I've since promised myself that I would try to keep the pile of shavings under control :o. Pecan, just over 12" diameter by 2 1/2" deep with 1/2" walls.

Very,Very PURTY Travis, would be more than happy to add it to my collection. Wait, I don't have a collection, this would make me start one. ;) Just outstanding !

This is one of the time I like the Burned Edge. It really makes the piece!

Travis that is a beauty. I really like the burnt edge. Of course Travis there are easier ways than using the shavings. :p :p

Wow. I like that a lot.

Your story however reinforces the reason I don't need a wood burner. Glad everythings ok.

Nice job. Good figure in the wood. Simple form to let the wood speak. The burning adds a nice detail.

Raymond, it reinforced my need to clean up my mess every now and then.;)
I didn't hear a single "I told you so" Andy, I went on the offensive before it got to that point.:D
Thanks everyone for the comments.

Travis that's gorgeous!! What do you guys use for burning, one of those
burning engraver pen type gizmos that has different points you can change out for different effects?

A guy in our club demo'd these at one of our meetings. Here's a link to directions for making the pen.

Only a few dollars worth of parts (nichrome wire, connectors, etc.) and
add a dimmer switch to the AC input of a battery charger to vary the heat. Works great.
