Well, Betsy and I were going home fr4om breakfast when we spotted an auction sign. She likes auctions so we followed the signs which took us to the end of our road and the auction. I didn't see much but they held up a plane and announced "stanley, 41/2. Gee, I don't have a 41/2, in fact I didn't know they existed. I got it for $15. Its a Bailey 41/2 smooth bottom. Do I have a gloat?? At any rate I think I did well, and thats all that counts.

Ed,

You did well there. It will clean up to be a real beauty. You'll like the benefits of the extra heft over a #4 when smoothing large surface areas. An added benefit is that it shares the same blade width as the 5 1/2 (later types), #6 and #7 IIRC.

I look forward to the "after" pics. Enjoy!
