I'll tell ya one thing... It was hard to get such a continious curve on the inside with only a 1/2 in round nose scraper. :p

I was looking at the bottom-middle picture and thinking "that inside bottom is too flat". Then it hit me that it was the outside I was looking at: absolute killer of an optical illusion...way cool!

Ben that grain is pretty cool. When I finish out a piece with the pith still in it I use that epoxy cocktail. It seems to stablize the wood. Looks pretty cool to me.

I really like the flow of the grain around the curves. Very nice.

Hi Ben

Looks like a nice turning. I like the way ash smells like buttered toast when I turn it. As nice as this turning is there is room for improvment in most everything we do (my response to your request for critique included).

One of the most prominent features of ash is the growth rings. Doing an end grain turning is a terrific way to show off that grain pattern. Because of the strong influence that the grain has on the impact of a turning the orientation of the grain should be as important as the shape of the turning.

The turning depicted in the pictures misses. Either centered or more off center would work better. The base looks larger than necessary. If you want to see this form in a more refined shape google Phil Brown woodturning.

If you decide to try this shape again then work in a wood that lets the shape be the primary feature. If you decide to turn ash again give some thought to how the growth rings will be presented.

Reminds me of a Vortex bowl I made last spring. I'm pretty fond of the shape. Cool looking piece Ben!:)

Ben, I like the way you oriented the wood for the bowl and I think the form fits that just right. Nice job.

Evening Ben.

I didn't know what looked out of line, just knew something was a little askew. The powerful grain is what caused it. Richard found the words for what I saw. The bowl is striking!

Ben...............I was still unable to get to your ash bowl after your PM. But today...the mud hit the fan here on my home computer. The LOML who likes to be referred to as SWMBO couldn't get to a website she wants to hang out on so.........I found the proper setting for my Spysweeper program and she's happy and I could get to you ash bowl........

WOW! What great form and stunning grain! Stunning!
