Does anyone have a source from which you can get handles and the ferrules and rings for Japanese chisels? I can turn the handles and planned on doing so, but can't find a place to buy the steel ferrule and ring. Thanks for the assistance.

Hida Tool sells handles (with the hoop) in a variety of sizes. They have a few extra hoops but not many. I suppose you could get a few different sized pieces of pipe and make your own.

Yep, Hida, also Hiraide. When I was out there a year ago, Hida had many hoops in about 8 different sizes. Be very careful about having the short sockets line up properly with the "ferrules".

make friends with someone that has a lathe and your tool handle problems are over forever.
