Good morning to all,

So I am at a garage sale yesterday and the gentleman having the sale has a few tools on a table. Natuarally when I see that I always ask if there is anyway else they are willing to part with. So he says Yeah I have a Veritas/Lee Valley bench plane and I also have a marking gauge. (ears perk up) I said what are you asking and he says I am not sure but I am only going to sell it for the right price. He goes down to get it and I realize the bloody stuff hasn't even been used. Man, was my heart racing. Without dragging this on I came home with a Veritas 5 1/4 bench plane and Crown marking gauge for the whopping total of $125. Woo Hoo! It was a great day to be alive! LOL. Here are some pics of my treasures.

When I got up and took pics this morning I got a little trigger happy and decided to take a bunch of pics of my shop. If you are interested in viewing I am posting them next after this.

Nice Score!!!!!

I keep looking at those LV bench planes, mostly the 4 1/2 smoother, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Well at least we now know the real reason for that massive low pressure area that has been bothering us all weekend. Nice score.

Hey Rick,

Nice to see you here. I have noticed you a few times on the canadian woodworking boards. We should start up a little group of guys around Ontario to keep a look out for different tools and stuff around the area. Kinda like, if I knew you were looking for an 8" jointer and found one in my area I would let you know, and vice versa. I got thinking of this after Mack C. sent me a PM about an 8" jointer in whitby as he knew I was looking for one. It could work out great for us fellas looking for equipment.

I know some folks will scoff at people spending money on new tools, but I happen to feel that Veritas offers some great quality tools at reasonable prices. Quality tools are worth investing in, if you plan to use them.

This is not to say that vintage equivilants aren't quality, I certainly feel they are, once fettled. Time or money, it's all for people to sort out for themself. I personally enjoy using a quality tool wether it be new or old (many new tools are far superior in some regards). Veritas certainly produces quality tools.

And if you don't feel they are, return it for a cash refund, Rob Lee is good about that and will even pay return shipping. Speaking of which, doesn't LV offer great service?:)
