Hello SMC! I am a fairly new member and 3 years new to WW'ing. Thought I would post a few of my newest additions to the wood shop. These additions were done after consultation with various woodworking forum members. Thank you to all who have given advice through posts and web examples.

First, here is a home-made cyclone set up. After several years using a HF 2Hp cycone (worked well and still works well, but wanted to move to a cyclone setup). I construced a blower housing based on Bill Pentz design, added a 3HP motor and a 14" impeller. The blower is nestled up in the joists, so we can't really see it. The cyclone is actually a purchased clone from the web and the trash can was modified to add a plexiglass window so I can see when it's getting full.

The blower exits via 8" tube through a very large homemade muffler. The muffler is constructed from 12" cardboard tubing (used for cement footings) and purchased at the home depot. The concept was built based on the design documented by Dave Belliveau on the Bill Pentz website http://billpentz.com/Woodworking/Cyclone/MufflerBelliveau.cfm

From that concept, I used the 12" cardboard tubing to give it a little more noise cancelling and after the 2" foam, it still has 8" diameter airflow. The muffler is 4 foot long. The blower drops through the muffler and turns up into the filter stack.

Then, since I saved soo very much making the cyclone, I decided to make a table saw wing router extension. With all of the savings, the LOML was open to springing for a new Router Lift FX! :D Ok, we'll that was my selling point and it worked! The router lift was then my excuse to build the TS wing extension. You see how this works. One thing leads to another  . The LOML understands somehow, she just does.

Here is the finished router table:

We'll these projects took a good 45 days, so now I need to clean up the shop, organize and then maybe, just maybe, make something with the shop! :) I'm planning to build coffee and end tables for the family room. Can't wait to get started.

Hope this helps stir some ideas for others. Thanks for taking a look!

Best Regards, Justin

The cyclone pic didn't come out very good. Here is a few close up pics.

Welcome, Justin

A nice job on both projects. I'm impressed with your innovative use of the cardboard tube for the muffler in the cyclone system. I would think that the cardboard tubing would improve on the efficiency of the muffler. I am currently involved in a cyclone installation (ClearVue) and your post and pictures couldn't have come at a better time, as I am still planning the piping and exhaust part of the system. Another thing I find interesting about your system is the cleanout placed ahead of the filters. Don't know why that would not work as well. Hmmm......

Thanks for sharing,

Jerry
