What will turn like lilac

Hello all, I need a wood that tuns like lilac but is more available.
I am going to turn a chess set( new to turning,need work on replications). I like the way lilac turns . I had dried some for use in an inlay. I made a piece with the lilac and liked its color and the way it cut and polished. So I am looking for a non exotic wood that turns like lilac but which I can find 8/4. Thanks.

Holly has a base color of white and, if treated properly, will stay that way. It turns like butter until it gets really dry. Finding 8/4 may be a challenge but I do have some 6/4 if you are interested. Holly is all over our region and there may be a sawmill that has exactly what you need.
