I have no experieince with m&t joints but want to use them on an up coming project. If I am using 4/4 stock and the boards will be 4" wide, what should the size of the tennon be?

Is it just me of did anyone have flash backs or Elementary School math classes reading this?? :)

John, Mark gave you the size and I will just state the obvious. Make several practice pieces to determine the best way to make them. Just went through this and the practice pieces were the smartest thing I did!

The mortises should be 3/8" wide. The tenons should be cut to fit snugly in the mortises. ;) :)

Not to hijack the thread, but is the Leight FMT jig an option - from a usability standpoint? It looks slick but it's sooooo expensive. It did occur to me though, that it is much cheaper than a multi router.
