I mounted the Uniguard splitter yesterday on my Delta CS. Pretty straight forward, but it seems to sit high. The tips of the pawls are about 5/16ths above the table top. Does anyone else use this splitter, and/or does this seem OK?

The mounting base is attached by bolts, so there is not a lot of adjusting room, especially vertically. The splitter itself has a bold on the side, the head of which fits into a slot in the base. There are "lips" on the bottom of the splitter that wrap around a plate that is squeezed to hold the splitter, by a knob. Everything seems to be in place, there is no movement of the splitter and it is in alignment with the blade. Would you file some on the pawls so they drop down lower, or should I leave it alone?

Thanks.

Frankly, I removed the pawls from my Biesemeyer splitter--I don't like them in many ways. But in answer to your question, most of those I've seen pretty much get down to the table level. If you run a lot of thinner material, than you can consider modification. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. But that's a personal opinion.

They look to be about as close as my Bies prawls.

I've grown frustrated to the point that I am nearly ready to remove them on mine (have to remove all offcuts directly to the back of the blade instead of being able to move the offcut to the outside.) Perhaps others have had different experiences, but the biggest danger to me is blade pinching.

As Jim noted, the only time you'll have an issue is really thin materials I'd think.

I installed the same splitter recently, and didn't have the gap you referenced.

The one thing you might check is to see if the bottom of the removable splitter is set all the way down. My recollection is that there is a stop bolted in the removable part. If you continue to have an issue, and want to resolve it, perhaps you could grind that rentenion bolt down a bit????

I may see if there's any room to move the splitter down where the base mounts to the saw top first, then decide what to do then. I would be very interested in hearing you guy's thoughts on using the pawls or not. They are a pain for crosscuts! The OEM splitter had a notch you could hold the pawls up with a piece of dowel fairly easily, but the Unigard splitter doesn't have it.

Thanks.
