I made this DVD cabinet for my daughter and her husband. It is made out of solid red oak with gel stain and sprayed lacquer. (the back is oak ply) This is the first project I sprayed. I bought the PC phs1 conversion spray gun this week. It worked well. I designed the cabinet with drawers because someday when DVD's are obselete the cabinet can be used for other things. The handles are made from walnut. Thanks to all those who helped me with info on spraying lacquer. I sprayed the bookcase also and will post that later when it is done.

Rick,

I like the design and your idea using drawers will definitely make it a much more versatile piece of furniture. The finish looks great too.

Very nice Rick. Does each drawer have dividers? How tall is it and how many DVD's do think it'll hold?

Nice project Rick, I could use one of those.

How did you go about making the feet?

Ben: The feet are from Woodsmith. I don't know the number but I liked the design and have used it before.

Peter: each drawer has 3 dividers and each divider holds 16 DVD's so the case can hold 288 DVD's. It is 43" tall, 27" wide and 20" deep.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Excellent job. Rick. Beautifully designed, fabricated and finished. The drawers are a great idea, even if DVDs stay in vogue for generations. ;)

Nice looking cabinet, Rick. Somewhere down the road I need to build storage for my CD's and I've also been thinking about drawers to make the most use of space.

I can't tell from the photos, are there side-mounted slides or is this a wood runner in a slot? If slides, are they full extension? What weight rating did you use?

They are wood runners. Sand and wax them well and they slide like a dream.

Thanks for your help. The spraying on the bookcases came out better because I did them last and had more practice. All in all I was pleased with my first attempt at spraying.

Great Job. The cabinet appears simple at first, but at second look has a lot of nice details. I especially like the feet.

Delightful balance - crisp clean lines - and a nice take on designing the drawers and drawer mounts to maximize ease of use for today's DVDs and tomorrow's whatevers. Door pull fits the pice well. Very nive work.
