Can anyone recommend an wood dealer who sells online and ships? Preferably first hand experience and preferably exotic type woods, 4/4 and 5/4.

I appreciate your help.

Irion Lumber (they are on the web).

They only handle good old American Hardwoods but they have wonderfull figured stock!

Just a satisfied customer.

I've dealt with Wall lumber. They have good service and some good prices.

Scott.

I ordered lumber online for the first time last week. I ordered 18 bft of 4/4 cocobolo from Curly Woods. Mike Mastin, here on the board is the owner.

The gentleman I worked with, Harold, called me back twice after the initial call to discuss the material he had available, what it looked liked, grain, color and overall dimensions of the individual boards. Called me back later to tell me that one board was found to have some checking on it that he didn't notice at first, and to make sure that I wanted that board as part of the sale.

Curly Woods has gotten good feedback both here on the board, and on the Wood Central board, so I took a chance. If the quality of the material mirrors the service. I think I'm going to be pretty happy.

Mike Mastin at Curly Woods (SMC member, too) is an excellent choice...I'm glad that Mike mentioned them. Irion that Mac mentions has a really good reputation for so many things...and incredible stock. 200 bd ft minimum, however, unless you can pick up. Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford PA does a huge business. Steve Wall also has a good reputation as mentioned above.

Hearne Hardwoods (as Jim mentions).

I go to Gilmer Wood Companys web site for wood porn. They have some great shots of their products on line. Lots of pricey exotics, but sometimes some bargains. Web site a little quirky but if you click on something like "newest unique and one of a kind boards" and then "newest unique board pages" you can see whats currently available, including some incredible wide bubinga planks.

I can also recommend Groffs. I used to use them almost exclusively but Hearne is closer to my house. They are both outstanding yards.

I'll echo West Penn Hardwoods. Not sure there are better prices on Mahogany anywhere, and I've always gotten excellent pieces from them.
