Hi All!

Thanks for the great forum. I am relatively new to the forum, and have posted only once prior, but read almost daily... it's somewhat addicting!

Was hoping someone could help me. I just picked up a DJ-20 jointer for $500... with new HTC mobile base. I couldn't pass it up, even knowing that I may not be able to run it right away, as I don't have 3 phase power supply.

At any rate, I am confused about the power and info on the placards. The placard on the back of the sled shows 1 phase 230 volt. The placard on the cabinet shows 3 phase 200 volt. There is a "Three Phase Motor Starter" on the side of the cabinet where the power cord is attached.

What are my options with power? I have read so many different things online in the last 2 days that my head is spinning. Plus, the placards have really thrown me off. Do I need a phase converter to get 3 phase power to the machine? Or does the motor starter work on 220 1 phase?

Please help!!!!!
-Andre

It looks like there are 3 wires coming in from the cable in the bottom picture; red, black and white. That looks like 220 1ph to me. But I may be completely wrong. Could you take a closer picture of the wiring schematic and the motor starter.

What does the plate on the motor say ?

Andre:

My DJ-20 is a 92 model and does't have anything like that. Wire just comes in to switch and motor, doesn't even have a cover like you have there, nor is the incomming wire that heavy. I would bet the farm you've got a 3 ph, and have the choice of either getting a phase converter or, what I would do another motor, unless all that gobly-goop is a built in converter ( unlikely ).

For what you paid for it, swap out the motor. Sell the 3 Ph for anything you can get and buy a new 220V single Phase. Grizzly 3hp is $250. A Leeson is $325.

If you can sell the existing motor for $100 you still have a VERY good deal.

Andre,

I believe my DJ20 has a 1 1/2 hp motor. I wouldn't hink you need much more than that. Mine has propen to be plenty powerful.

Good luck.
