Finally finished making a vacuum pump station for a veneer press. Got a free pump from a fellow woodworker, bought some parts from JoeWoodworker, and used my imagination. I set the controller for 22 mmHg and its been holding right there for 4 days now. I still need to make the bags before I'm up and running.

Cool stuff, James. Looks like it could really suck. ;) I especially like the see-through electrical panel.

Very nice, I'm going to build one but don't want to buy a 10 foot section of pipe. I only need three feet.

Any ideas?

Steve,
I bought my pipe at the BORG. I needed enough for mine and my freinds project. Ask at the BORG if they have cutoffs, but I suspect any plumbing supply company would just give you the small amount you need.

Jim,
Nice job. I've wanted to do that project for a long time. Never found the time though. How long did it take you? How much did you spend?

Wow, nicely done! That's one heck of a vacuum pump too! Looks like you're all set to go.

I am in the same boat as Dave Malen in that I have had my eye on that project for a bit. Did you use the plans freely available on oej-ay oodworkerw-ay?

Yep, I started with the free Joe W. plans and alterered them for my application. The biggest expense would be the pump, but I came away with mine for free. I think I've got less than $200 in everything else. Took some time doing the research and finding all the material, but the actual build time is about 2-3 days, including the cabinet.

Very cool - thanks for the update. I may look at this for my next project.
