My son is taking Comp Sci courses at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was quite excited when I received my laser this summer and thought about designing a project that could be 100% laser cut to show off at school next month.

Here it is. It's made of 1/4 plywood (doubled for strength), completely laser cut. He designed it in Corel X3. The gears were a challenge as X3 isn't a true CAD program and as far as I know doesn't 'make' gears. The gear file is attached.

The thing works, and stands 13" tall and is 23" long. I doubt it would walk if a power supply was grafted onto it. The cranks make the legs travel a bit too long and it's very unstable. For a second year student project, I'd give it an "A".

Let me know if you'd like the files, I'll post them - maybe a cool scout project...?

Very clever. I hope he does get an A.

I like the looks of his work. Great job! Have you shown him an laser cut clocks? Those are really neat projects too.

Hi, that looks really neat. I for one would love to see a plan for that Walker. I can imagine the hours of fun my Grandkids would have with it.
Thanks for showing it.

Here's one more site with gear clocks, www.scrollsaws.com, he also has some interesting plans & many of them are .cdr.
