Help With Cherry Purchase

About 50 bd ft of rough sawn 4/4 cherry lumber (F1F grade).
Various widths and lengths.
$95 or best offer.

Worth a 10 mile trip to look at?

Is F1F grade any good (I think from what I can find it's FAS one side only)?

According to my math that works out to less than $2 bd/ft.;)

I would think at that price you could get some decent wood even if it wasn't all the best quality. Heck, around here poplar isn't much cheaper than that.

I would definitely take a look, at the most your out 45 minutes of time.

IMHO, At $1.90 per bd-ft I would drive 10 miles and I would do it with my truck and $95.00 ($85.00 in one pocket and $10.00 in the other) - just in case.

I'd make the drive in a hurry before it is gone. Don't know what F1F grade is, though.

Mike from what I understand, those are shorter lengths.Longest is 6' and shortest 3'. OK for smaller project. Best to see it to make decision..

Your post strikes me funny. I know it's all about perspective but around here I drive 10 miles to go anywhere! It's 5 miles to the grocery store, 10 miles to Lowes, 7 to the Ace Hardware. So I wouldn't hesitate, but it would probably be on my way to anywhere. :)

F1F means FAS one face. So one face has to be FAS quality (81 2/3% clear and at least 6 inches wide and 8 feet long). The other side can be No 1 common (as low as 66 2/3% clear).

IMHO, F1F is fine for a lot of projects. And two bucks a board foot would be a steal in my neck of the woods (pretty sorry neck, though).

But the advice to take a good look at it first is wise. It could be badly twisted or otherwise misshapen, could be serious surface checking, etc.
