Thought I would show the planks that the first platter or plate I made came from. I figured with the water stains that it probably would not turn out to well. But the plate sure turned out nice. The next 2 pictures are of the next one on the lathe and I will finish turning tomorrow. I have enough wood to make a set of 8.

I put walnut oil on the one I posted here Dennis. I will put the walnut oil/beeswax/carnuba wax on tomorrow. I think it is going to work real well. I am going to try one with walnut oil and the Lawrence-McFadden Gel Poly I got on top. I talked with the guys there at Lawrence-McFadden and they thought that would work excellent. So I will try it on a scrape first.

Bernie, it looks like you have a good thing going. IMHO, if the water staining carries through the board, I would think it would add to the personality of the piece.

Thanks for the comments. I guess the old saying you can't just a book by its cover also works for wood. You can just wood by it's cover.
