I don't know if I would call this a hollow form or maybe just a vase. It is made from Elm. I was going to throw it in the neighbors firewood pile when while turning the knot fell out. I decided to continue just for practice hollowing. It was a chore since my little Sorby multi-tip doesn't go much past 6 1/2". This is 7" tall and 3 1/2" across. When the wife seen it she said there is no way you are throwing that away. Finish it. I finished the inside and out with Waterlox. After finishing it didn't turn out to bad.

Good looking vase Bernie. When you get set up with a hollowing rig, it'll be sooooo much sweeter.:D Great job with that little Sorby!

That is one HOL"E"Y vase, Real Artsy. Get a glass tube as large as it will hold or just put dried flowers in it. It's a winner.

Bernie,

It looks very nice to me. Like Travis said, you get a hollowing setup and it will make a lot of difference in turning pieces like this. A most excellent job there buddy!!!!! Keep'em comin'.

Great save Bernie. I like the "liquid" appearance of the finish. Did you buff it after the waterlox finish?

Nope there is no buffing at all. I really like the Waterlox original finish. It just shines.

Thanks for the comments. Next time I won't be as hasty in my judgement till the piece is near finished.

Very pretty wood, and the knot, not being there just adds to the interest!

Cheers!

Bernie, you did a nice job on this vase. I had a "professional" tell us that things like the knot are simply design opportunities and to take advantage of them. You did and ended up with a nice piece. Keep it up:) :)

Thanks again. I appreciate it. It start out with what I thought was disaster but end up coming out just pretty good. Get a new hollowing tool rig so I can do some bigger one's.
