I found some 3/8" bits in my dad's basement the other day. Called the guys that make the Extreme Extension that I have on my Hitachi router asking if they have an adaptor for 3/8". No reply (it is going on 2 weeks).
Any of you folks know of or ever heard of any 3/8" adaptors or collets?

Bosch, Mil, DeWalt, etc. all offer them. I don't use them and don't have the need but, if they're enough of them or you just feel like trying them out:

etc.

Measure carefully. There are also bits with a 10mm shank, which is close to 3/8", but not close enough.

3/8" collets used to be more common. I had a Bosch router in the eighties which had one. I don't think I've seen one recently. However, you can buy an adapter which lets you run a 3/8" shank in a 1/2" collet. I bought one last year. I don't remember where I got it -- Amana maybe?

I bought a 1/2" to 3/8" collet adapter from Leigh several years ago. The web site is: http://www.leighjigs.com/cutters-i1.php

Sure. I have two of them for my Porter-Cable routers. Got them at a Rockler store.

For PC's not only can you get 3/8" collets, but also 10mm collets. I use the 3/8 ones with end mills and a speed reducer when doing motises. Started this before anyone could afford a solid carbide spiral bit.

Now what I'm really looking for is an 8mm collet, but I can't find one anywhere.

Machine tool suppliers can get collet adapters for 3/8", I have one for my 1/2" collet that I have used to adapt mills to use on my router.

.... You're going to find that whatever the size collet, they are expensive. About three years ago, I was in a well know hardware store in the tool section. An older guy, who was very gracious in helping me, said these are NOT very much (money). So I ordered one for my router. When it came in, the old guy called me and said you are not going to want to buy this (collet). To his surprise and mine, the price was about 5X what he quoted me. He told me he was sending the balance of 5 or 6 back to the distributor because he knew he wasn't going to be able to sell them at that price. Because he was so gracious in helping me, the old guy sold me ONE at his price and sent the rest back. For what I call a little spring steel clip it sure was expensive. So regardless of the size, if you need one these, you are going to PAY :(.

This is what I use and it is low cost and works well. You want #277

I use it with a 3/8" spiral bit that is really an end mill. You can buy these end mills on EBAY for a good price. Much lower than a spiral router bit.
