Here's what I've been working on lately. Its my workbench based on Lon Schleining. The base and top are maple, the aprons are QS sycamore.

I setup some rails and used the string criss-cross method to prepare for flatening with a router sled.

I learned a lot during construction and made a number of mistakes. Ultimately I beleive I will leave the mistakes as a reminder of how much I still have to learn... an with any luck, in the future how far I've come.

Some of the misakes include -- poorly cut half blind dovetails on the aprons... and as a matter of fact, I cut them backwards... the dovetails on the right are not exposed, but rather face the veritas twin screw and are quite gappy.. the ones on the right are facing outward toward the front vise and are gappy, but less so.

Another major mistake is that I measured the length and laid out the holes for the twin screw such that the vise wood blank is 2" shorter than it should be.

Lastly, the apron on the left has about a 1/8" gap between the slab and the top. I beleive that to be due to the front apron being about 1/16" too long...

However, all in all, it's a very heavy, solid bench and should serve me for many years, depsite the errors.

Please pardon the mess, cleaning day is Friday...

Jim, that's going to be a fine bench! 'Looking forward to more pictures as you progress with the project.
