Any Experience with Half Blast Gates?

I am looking to upgrade my DC runs by switching to 6" schedule 30 PVC for my ducting. Presently, I'm using 4" flex hose. Anyway, It seems some manufacturers make something called a "half blast gate," which installs by simply cutting a slit halfway through your pipe, then attaching the blast gate on the outside of the pipe. Does anyone have any experience with these? Would they fit on 6" PVC?

Any other suggestions/thoughts on using PVC are welcome too. Thanks...Jon

I have a couple in use in my shop. They leak a little unless you can put something inside the pipe for the gate to press against as the suction pulls it towards the collector. If you don't need an airtight closure, then the PVC should be easier to install than metal...
