Cleaning Open Grain Oak

What is the best way to clean dirt out of the open grain of an oak dinning table. Owner (freind) is not interested in sanding.What finishes after cleaning is suggested to prevent same problem again, having no clue as to whats on it now.

Murphys Oil Soap followed by by guearsmen Furniture polish. Both are a vailable a good hardware store, also the orange and lue borgs. LOML uses them on our OAK dinning table.
