View Full Version : Are we ready for a new contest?

Chris Barton

I have an idea for a new turning contest but, it will be very different than anything we have done before. Everyone who enters will have to take a little departure from what they normally do and what we see the most of here on the Turners Forum. Once started it will run for 2 weeks and I will donate a $200 gift certificate to Woodcraft to the winner to be determined by an online poll. Let me know what you think...

I promise it will be several things; scarry, different and probably the most difficult contest to date. Be afraid, be very afraid...

Well, here is another hint and condition, at least 15 people will have to COMMIT to entering the contest. Less than 15 entries and the prize goes back in my wallet...

My count shows 5 with some being "maybes." Either you'er in or not.

PS: of course I am not elidigble...

Me too - I'm still wondering how you guys make a hollow anything, so I figure I'll need to practice for a couple of years before I can produce anything that'd be able to match up to what I keep seeing here.

Should be fun to watch, though. There's just nothing quite like seeing what everyone else is doing to get you fired up to do things yourself...

Chris,
Although I'm not in a class with most here I certainly will give it a try. I just got electricity to my lathe in the temp shop so I'm good to go. Hmmmm a $200 woodcraft Gift card sure would come in handy..:D

Chris Barton

By my count we have 5 "yes" and one maybe so far... We need 10 more guys and gals with strong constitutions and brave hearts!

Blake McCully

Chris,
Count me in. Are you going to provide suggestions for the turn, or let it up to the turner and the judges will decide if they are acceptable?

Anyhoo, I'm in.

Chris Barton
08-12-2006, 4:46 PM
Blake, the rules will be very simple and the choice of what you make will be up to you. We have 8 "commits" so far...

Only judges will be the people that come on line and vote...

Andy Hoyt
08-12-2006, 5:03 PM
Aw come on Rob Wilkins! You can do it. Your profile says that you turn, write, and injure yourself. Here's your chance for that perfect first person singular story describing just exactly how you almost saved your life on the lathe.

Belly up to the tool rest and git-r-done!

Bruce Shiverdecker

Got me DROOLIN'...............................Not just because I'm gettin' OLD!

Wow, I think this is great that Chris is doing this. I don't think i am contest material yet so I will gracefully decline but will look forward to seeing the entries.

Then, you should jump in. Just remember, once in you have to submit an entry before the close of the contest...

Can we enter twice? :D

Chris Barton
08-12-2006, 6:05 PM
Can we enter twice? :D

Nope, just one entry per person so, if you survive the creation process you can wait and watch for the vote.

Joe Fisher

Ok, I'll bite as long as we don't need a hollowing rig ;)
