With the help from my internet friends from two woodworking sites, I built this
4/4 and 8/4 Curly Maple Tressel/Trestle Table. Hand-cut Mortise and Tenon joinery. The finish was two coats of Waterlox Sealer, then smoothed with grey non-woven pad; cleaned with paint thinner; then three coats of 50% Waterlox Satin & 50% Waterlox Gloss. Finally smoothed with a white non-woven pad. Not too glossy and not too dull-perfect! It will seat 6 no problem (8 if close friends !). Rock solid. I appreciate the help and support from you all!
Thanks,
Phil

Phil, a word I don't use often; stunning. I love lighter colored woods anyway but, the clean lines on your table rock!

Phil,

Terrific work........that's a keeper!!! The design lends itself to a "more lighter side"......and yet you comment it is Rock Solid......I like that!!! You should be very pleased. Show us some more pics if you can!!

Sorry about the quality of pics---cell phone pics are not the best!
Thanks for the comments-I agree with them all! I actually love constructive criticism-that’s how I learn. I was having a very difficult time getting spectacular wood for this project...the widest I could find was 9/4 rough…so without doubling up (gluing or whatever) the “feet” etc, the widest finished width for the “feet”
is the 2” it is. I wanted(needed) the height for the “feet” to be a bit more, so they are. A tressel table plan in a magazine, used glued-up feet, but with Curly Maple it can look funny. For attaching the table top to the base-----to cradle the table top, the cradle looks like the feet flipped 180 degrees; then I made some sliding interlocking joints, so there is no metal used in this table. This Curly Maple is very curly; the top is all bookmatched; and the base is also bookmatched. Flattening the top took some time, but my $50.00 wooden plane performed as a trooper. Any suggestions for “wood dealers” who stock spectacular Curly Maple (Hard and/or Soft) in 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 ? I “need” to buy some within the next few weeks--Any specific suggestions –names/websites/tele#, would be very helpful. Distance doesn’t really matter too much. Thanks all, Phil

How are you going to keep it flat? No breadboard on the ends so
what did you do underneath?
thanks,
really beautifully done, something to proud of for sure.

Absolutely fantastic Phil! I'm a big fan of curly maple, I've used it on a couple of projects and I've been very happy with the final result.

I'll bet all that lumber cost a pretty penny

Check these guys out. I have just seen some of their lumber for the first time and it looked spectacular in the rough. I can't wait to see it planed and finished.
