This small HF is Thuya Burl (I believe) from Australia. It measures 3-1/2" dia. x 2-1/2" tall with 1/8" walls. Looks a lot like redwood to me but has so much resin sandpaper lasted about 30 secounds before it was loaded. I opted for a "built in" collar and used a Stinson burning tool for texture. Finish is Beall buffed only. As always thanks for looking.

I like that Kieth. This is something I want to be able to do and a piece like this is very doable on my mini I think. Great work Keith, love to see your stuff!

Great wood, great form, and I really like the burned collar - nice touch.

Pretty deceiving on the size - looks bigger to me.

Thanks guys for your comments. The small size concerned me at first but I found out it was as easy, if not easier to turn as larger pieces.

Sweet looking HF, Keith! While the wood is awesome, your shape and burned collar are stunning!

That's a little beauty! You must have generous friends or plenty of $$$ in your wood budget. How did you like the pine-sol smell while turning it?

A very fine looking HF. How did the wood smell, Keith? I turned some wood this weekend that finished looking remarkably like your little hollow form that was extremely resinous. It was Camphor Burl. I have some Thuya burl but haven't turned any yet except as a pen.

You do pretty work!

Dick, this wood, however pretty, just down right stinks !:) Doubt I will ever turn another piece of it:rolleyes:

Keith,
I turned a little slimline pen only to have it fill the shop with its scent. I kind of enjoyed it for a while and then... I can only guess how the smell overwhelmed your shop with something larger!

By the way, I'll gladly accept shipment of any leftover thuya burl to save your shop from that smell (j/k:)).

Did you change your avatar after the Thuya Burl experience? It looks somewhat fitting...

Nice work,
Dick

I honestly thought they had soaked it in kerosene the first time I turned a pen out of this stuff. I was looking for it to burst into flames while I was sanding. This is a beauty Keith.
