I turned this recently from a salvaged tree three houses down. The base needs a couple more coats of Poly to match the shine of the top. Although difficult to see, the void in the front is just that...a void.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

How big is it? The wood has a wonderful shine to it. Great work!

I forgot about the details...

It's 6" tall and 8" in diameter. The finish is around ten coats of tung oil (I lost count).

Steve that is a mighty fine looking piece. I like the tung oil finish. Nice job.

Nice looking piece Steve! I'm going to have to try tung oil one of these days!

Tung Oil gives a beautiful finish that feels great, but it takes time. One coat a day and rubbing it out only takes a few minutes, but it can be frustrating to wait a week and a half to have a completed piece. The nice thing is that it acquires more gloss with each coat, so you can stop whenever you get it to a shine that you like.
