Below is a photo of the bubinga top for the dresser I'm building. I started with two coats of dewaxed shellac, then several coats of waterbourne acrylic polyurethane. I sanded with 400, then 600. Last step I've taken was rubbing with paste wax and 0000 steel wool. There is still very fine scratches in the finish that need to be removed. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here. Should I use the wax and steel wool again, try a rubbing compound, or maybe another method. Any advice would help.

Wow, that is one nice looking top!

How about a buffer, like for a car?

Cheers!

McGuire's (SP?) Swirl remover. Get it from the auto parts store. Works wonders and i use it on every piece that leaves the shop.

I agree to try Mcguires Swirl remover... but... with 600 grit as your final rub out grit before steel wool, you may need to strip the wax and add another coat of urethane. Nice and thin, then you can just try rubbing out with #0000 steel wool. This should give you a nice satin finish. Good luck, and nice chunk o' wood.

Steve,

Thanks for the advice. Plain steel wool with no wax on it worked great.
A nice satin finish, and no more scratches.
