After making a few of these and giving them away as wedding goblets I had someone track me down and ask me to make one for them. Now that I've got it done I'm not sure I want to part with it. It was a really nice piece of cocobolo with a little bit of yellow sapwood. It's 7" tall and 1.75" diameter with interlocked captive rings.

Great job on a fantastic piece of wood. Love the weight of the stem, small without making it look like that was the object of the piece.

That looks great, Curt.

Can we see a straight on close up?

Curt,

I can see why you don't want to give it away, it's beauteous!

How thin is the cup section, and did you have to use a steady rest or some other type of support when turning the stem?

I'm with you Curt. It's a beautiful turning, with everything just right.

Curt,

I'd love to see a tutorial on just how you do that. You got time to put up a tutorial on how to make one of these?

Very pretty and I love the form. Very elligant.

Great job, Curt. Ever since the zebrawood one you did a while back, I've admired your goblets. No wonder people are wanting to own them.

Beautiful piece of work, Curt. I specially like, that you kept the captive rings to a good size in comparison to the goblet. I too often saw captive rings being too thick and too large in diameter. Great job!

Thanks everyone.

Andy, here's a straight on shot. I don't have a photo booth so I usually take my pictures on the kitchen countertop and the straight on shots show all the household clutter.

Jerry, here's a top view that shows the cup thickness (and the flash really shows the dimple in the bottom). I turn the cup first without any support. After I get it finished I stuff some paper towel into it tight and bring up the tailstock into the wad of towel for support. Then I just work my way back towards the base.

Thanks again everyone.

Hay, Curt, looks like I'm not the only one who looked to the Woodcraft website for how-to's! :) Seriously, though, with a stem that long and thin, do you have a steady, or do you just use your fingers?

Thanks for the close ups, Curt. Just what was needed to confirm my original assessment as to the cool-factor on this one.

Nice crisp detailing. Very well done!
