View Full Version : Walnut Burl Artsy Piece

Well, you can't put a lot of ice cream in this one. It's walnut burl from the center of a blank that was turned for veneer. The texture was created using a needle scaler. It's a technique that John Jordan discussed in a demo I saw a year ago.

Laquer, Black Gesso
6" diameter x 2.25" high

Nice. I like these heavier pieces as a change of pace...and they really let you do some neat things with that wide surface to play with!

Looks like one scoop will nestle into that center cavity quite nicely,
kinda like how fancy restaurants put tiny portions on humongous plates. :D

That's too cool Raymond. Any chance of a closeup of the texturing? It adds the perfect touch to the rim.:cool:

It's a great piece. The texturing is not to my taste but thats just me.

Very nice "Artsy" piece Raymond:) :) I bought a needle scaler a year ago after a Bob Rosand demo and have used it once ! Again a great piece !!:) :)
