Hi everybody, hope you are all doing o.k. today.

I have another one of those questions that some of you are going to find less than interesting. I've had these plaques on the shelf for a couple of months now and we are just getting into plaques and such, so, my question is . . . is there a website or book or something that shows wording for plaques, or do you just make em up as you go? :confused:

Thanks for any help you can spare.

Zelma,

I'm afraid that we haven't found any web sites that specialize in content for plaques but there is a thread here at SMC that might at least give you a few ideas that will get you started;

Are these for general appeal to sell at craft shows? If so, there are websites devoted to quotes with the author that you can use, search motivational sayings. If you want to market to a specific group, then again you can do web searches for anything from randomly generated insults to humorous quotations, motivational sports sayings, spiritual quotes, humorous spiritual quotes and even "dirty" quotes like this one:

"It's hard for me to get used to these changing times. I can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty."

some of my favorites....

Native American Wedding Blessing
Irish Wedding Blessing
(you can used these with or without photos)

also
Bible quotes,
Other irish Blessings

search for poems or wedding blessings or "funny quotes" on the web...

walk around the flea market and look at some of the funny sayings on T-Shirts too, people like small plaques with silly things on them.

Thanks again guys, you are all GREAT! (Psalms 41:10) Someday we will be old hats at this and be able to return your kindness! Not that I am saying you guys are old hats, I just mean more experience, you know what I mean, O.K., being quite now. Thanks again!

If you want some good clipart to go with those, Dover Publishing has many books of period or subject clipart royalty free. Look at a big used bookstore like Powell's in Portland, they run $4-15 new but $1-4 used.
I have half a dozen and they scan/engrave nicely. Things like "early matchbook advertising". Their "Ready-to-Use" clipart series are cheaper but there are over 200 of them. I prefer to get the thicker but more expensive ones used. (Not afilliated with them in any way.)

My daughter gave me a neat little paperback book called "The Father's Book of Wisdom". It's only $3 or $4 but has some wonderful sayings/quotations which would be great on small plaques. ex. "In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins--not through strength but by perseverance." --Dad
