I'm looking for a history lesson.

Can you recomend a web site or good book that will give me the 411 on planes, types, history, and makers???

When you start dropping names and numbers I'm lost.

I've been searching flea markets and estate sales with a new interst.

How big is the home crafted variety of plane building?? I have seen some wonderful works of art grace these pages.

Thanks for your help.

Garrett Hack is the author, I believe the book title is Handplanes. Taunton Press publishes it. It's the best book I've seen on hand planes.

Dedicated only to Stanley planes, Patrick Leach's "Stanley Blood & Gore" site is pretty much the 'standard' for descriptions & identification of them:

Other sites exist for other makers, but none so complete as Patrick's.

Thank you. This sight is now bookmarked on my machine and the lessons begin.
