Any one know of a source for bearings?

I only need one or two for a 1/2" dia shaft for a lathe. Nothing very heavy duty.

I've looked on the net but all I can find are industrial suppliers.

Thanks in advance

Julio,
I've bought bearing and belts from both Kaman and Motion. Although they are industrial houses, they do cater to walk in trade. Just tell em what you need or if you have a sample show em what you got and they'll take you cash or credit card. You'll get a good product at a fair price.

Julio,
I've had great luck at my local Kaman office. Very nice people, very quick service. That said, the other sources are good as well.

McMaster-Carr is a great source and good service too.

Buy a lot from them, and they have just about anything you want too.

I buy a lot of stuff from McMaster too but I wouldn't buy bearings from them exept for a throwaway application. Try Accurate Bearing in Chicago. No minimum order, decent prices. http://www.accuratebearing.com. Depending on the application, your local electric motor shop may be able to help you out.

Measure carefully and if possible get the brand and number off the existing bearing. Most bearings will be a metric dimension.

McMaster is a good source for a lot of stuff. I find them higher on many items though.

My first choice is a good old fashioned Auto Parts. No Auto Zone or any or the other WalMarts of auto parts. One with a real parts man that doesn't have pimples and a cell phone stuck to his ear. A good one can get most any bearing you need.

Next would be someone like Motion Industries or McMaster Carr if you know what you want. You can order online with them. Just ordered some casters, pulleys and belts from both of them. Grainger might be another one.

Don't be scared of an Industrial supply Most of them will deal with anyone.

Pete, what kind of problems have you had with M/C bearings. They are a big time industrial supply company. The bearings I've used from them have all appeared to be high quality. I'm interested because I'm getting ready to build something that will require several bearings and was going to purchase from them.

Julio: Pick up your local, yellow pages and you will find a bunch of listings. Determine the no. you want or write down the Id/Od and call the nearest store. The chances are odds on that they'll have them or can get them next day - no shipping, check them before you buy, etc. etc.
