Just wondering, anybody have a guess as to how many board feet of dried lumber will fit reasonably in the back of a 1/2 ton PU?
In this case a F150.

I know it'd depend on weight, but maybe a better question might be any idea on what some dried woods weight per bf??

Long bed or short?

Flare side or styleside?

Al,

I usually define how much I can fit in my 25 years old F150, 4' x 8' by weight, some 1600 lbs. So hardwood at something like 4 lbs gives me around 400 lbs. Softwood at something like 3 lbs brings it up to over 500 lbs.

I put 500 bd ft in a Ford 350 not long ago, all oak and ask. It filled the bed to just below the top of the sides and most of the boards were 10' lengths. The suspension still had plenty of travel left.

For a 150 i'd guess 300 bd ft would be safe.

Enough to stress your springs. Make more than one trip.

It depends a lot on your 1/2 ton pickup weight rating. I had a 1980 chevy that would haul over a ton before it hit the overload springs. My 1990 would hit the overloads at a little over a half ton.

Ya know, I just had that feeling when I posted this I should have worded it differently....at least nobody asked what color the truck was....:D

So hardwood is about 4# per bf and softwood 3# then?

I should be able to take the listed load capacity of the truck and add the required 10% "just a few more can't hurt" and I should be set, thanks all....well...most of ya anyway...:D

Al ..in case your wondering...its blue.....

Yeah, according to the chart on "Loading wood into trucks.com" the blue factor is +10%. Your lucky day!
