Compliments of Joe Melton:) ...he sent me a blank of dyed Aspen from Colorado. I really wanted this one to turn out good and I believe it did. 7 3/4" X 3 1/4" Sanded to 600, 0000 steel wooled and BLO with three coats of Deft steel wooled and rubbed with fine Scotch Brite pad after each coat and then waxed. NOTE: also used my new Donut Chuck

Neat stuff, isn't it? The piece I had smelled like peppermint while I was turning it...does it always do that?
Nice bowl, BTW. :D

Very slight mint smell when turning the bark off, but none after that. This color is also more of a blue green. Is the Dyed part natural or enhanced by some process?

ErnieThanks Ernie. This stuff was so light and dry I don't know how Joe does it but It was wonderful to work with. He told me sanding was a bit of a challenge but I found it not near as bad as some of my oak.

Chris, that's a great looking bowl. As for the smell---I have found oak to have a very particular, and rather strong smell. I would imagine, with you being the "oak master", that this scent was quite mild. :)

You took an unusal piece of wood and applied your talent to it and produced a strickingly glamourous work. Thanks for the post.
