Well I am in the process of making some Mahogany Salad bowls for my son and DIL. When we were down visiting a year a go and went to Williamsburg she saw some Mahogany bowls she wanted so bad. But they didn't have the money so didn't get them. So old dad is making a set for a Christmas present that we will take out to them. Just got the little ones done but no finish. Still trying to make up my mind what I want to use. Anyway they range from 7 1/4" across to 8". They are 1 3/4" deep. Took me 2 1/2 days to do these. The big block is on the lathe to be turned tomorrow. It will be 13" to 13 1/2" across and 5" to 5 1/2" deep. I will post when I get it turned. Comments and Critiques welcom.

They look excellent Bernie. Can't wait to see the whole set done and finished. I think you did a great job getting the same shape and size on them. Very nice Bernie!

Hi Bernie,
Great looking bowls. Can't wait to see the big one. Check Mike Mahoney's site. He uses walnut oil either alone or with a blend of beeswax and carnuba wax. He has some for sale. You might be interested in that.

Nicely done, Bernie! I guess turning ten of the same qualifies you as a production turner?:D
Be sure to post pics after you put the finish on. :)

Bernie;
One great thing about those bowls is that your DIL will be able to say to her guests, at one of her dinners, "My FIL made these for use, you can't find them anywhere."
Great Gift.

Great gift Bernie. I agree with Blake, I've used Mahoney's finish along with Beal and it really looks nice.

Hi Bernie,
Great looking bowls. Can't wait to see the big one. Check Mike Mahoney's site. He uses walnut oil either alone or with a blend of beeswax and carnuba wax. He has some for sale. You might be interested in that.

Blake I got some of his walnut oil. He told me to use the walnut oil first and then put the walnut oil/beeswax/ carnuba wax combo on after the first round of walnut oil has dried.

George I found production turning can kinda be a chore. Don't want to do that to often. I will post pictures when I get the finish on.

Thanks again for the comments. I posted the big salad bowl in another thread.

Wow Bernie you sure have been busy. Why didn't you make a spare set while you were at it?:D Seriously they are looking good and I can't wait to see them all finished.:) :)
