Well, at long last I have finally worked my way through that big pile of spalted hickory that Mike gave me last fall. The stuff was a nightmare to turn (as a few of you out there also know) and my guess is that only one in five pieces survived the ordeal; although that said, I would not have traded away the experience for anything. The two biggest lessons I learned were how to deal with mushy wood and end grain diffugilties.

So here's the last one off the line. Of the survivors, some were bigger; some had better finishes; some had better form; some had fewer defects at the end; all had a bit of these qualties to one degree or another. But this one actually made it closer to the ideal than any of the others.

Oops, I forgot the all important particulars.

It's about 12" across and 4" high. Has a few coats of gel poly on it and was then buffed.

Once it's fully totally completely cured in another couple of weeks it will be food safe and I sure hope Mike considers it a "user".

'course I gotta send it to him first.

That's a beauty Andy and that wood looks great.

I should have answered your PM about dying the rim pink. I think now that you should have.

Nicely done, Mr. MOA, sir.

Was wondering if you had to hock tht lathe to match the donations....glad to see you still have her and that she still works wonderfully!

Wow, Andy, that's some fine wood, and the form and finish look great. I know your duties as the Minister of Abysseration keep you, but you need to spend more time on that Mayo so we can see more great work!
