New ShopBot Pics and 1st paying job

Well, I've assembeld it and played with it since July 21st and have been having a bunch of fun! Love this machine!

Here are some pics of the machine in my shop as well as 2 pics of my 1st paying job....well...they are for my son (a builder) for one of his new houses he's building ..so I guess it won't be paying after all, but anyway...

I made four of these panels out of 3/4" thk. red oak. They will run vertically ( 2-up) on each side of his big video projector screen for the video room. He wanted them painted white with the routed areas painted black..guess who got to do the painting. Yep, the WIFE!;)

They turned out great. 3 more to paint though.

Btw, In the background hanging on the wall in the 'Bot' pics are some projects I've done in the past on the Laser.

Bob, I have a variety of software, but what I used on these carvings was CorelDraw X3 and VCarve Pro to do the final layout and generation of the cut file. VCarve Pro is a really nice program to have if you have CNC. (http://www.vectric.com )

the clamps do quite well. One problem I've found is that the knobs on the clamps are a little high and can run interference with the dust collector attachment. In the future I will place higher spacers under the workpiece. which will place the workpiece higher than the knobs. I just got my new vacuum system working the other day using pods. It really works well and looking forward to using them in the future. Thanks, but yes, it's my real shop. At the other end of the building (it's a 24' x 36') where the digital printing, laser engraver, mini-mill and lathe are situated, you can look out the window overlooking the swimming pool that's between the house and shop. Ooops. ....didn't mean to mention that...:mad:

I think you could do surgery in that room - it looks so clean;) I'm just curious on how you plan on keeping it that sawdust free. Does your dust collector work that well?

Wow. I think I just got one step closer to getting a ShopBot. I love my laser, but I can see a whole lot of extra stuff I can do with that machine!

Haven't heard from you in a while. Good to see you are still around! Did you get your 'Bot' in yet? Yes, the dust collector does do a 'very' good job of collecting, but there is always some chips that manage to get thrown out, so I make sure I vacuum throughly at the end of the day.

I'll pass the comments on to the wife ...she'll appreciate it.

Yes, you would love to have one of these machines! Believe me. Go for it if you can! I love my laser, but it does have it's limitations. My plans are to combine the capabilites of both into the same project. Should make for some unique and interesting results/gadgets/dodads/whatever.

David, just another thought on sawdust and the close proximity of the airconditioner. The coils of the unit will get clogged real quick without some sort of extra filtering. I have a clean room filter added in front of my air conditioner and it isn't enough to keep everything out. It is 6" deep and 24" x 36".

It's been a concern for me too and I'm keeping an eye on it. So far it's not looking bad at all. I do have an electrostatic air cleaner in the shop and since having that the dust problem in the shop dropped 50%...at least. But...that was before I brought the 'Bot' into the picture. Time will tell.

electrostatic air cleaner, now that is an idea. Which one did you get?

I bet it would not be a good idea to have it ON when sparying finishes unless they are water based :-)

Did you try hitting refresh?

He seems to have his images stored on Photobucket. I know that Photobucket does ban a small number of ISPs from seeing their images. But I think they usually replace the image with one that has a message saying so. If you aren't seeing anything, then that's probably not the cause.

Maybe a DNS problem with the DNS server your ISP uses? Sometimes waiting a day can let a DNS server update with settings for sites that don't work the day before.

Ahhhhh, Firefox doesn't seem to want to show the pictues. They showed up in IE however.
