I posted on another board, but I figured I'd go ahead and post it on the creek to celebrate it being back up and running. The rocker is made out of solid walnut. The finish is shellac and lacquer rubbed and waxed. It was built for a petite woman. It fits her like a glove. I teach classes on how to make these through my wwing school and usually work on one along with the students to show various parts of the shaping process.

Here is a link to the complete photo gallery (http://www.jsrwoodworking.com/MaloofRocker02Gallery/)

The next rocker I'll be making is going to be made out of some really nice figured cherry. After that I've got claro walnut. :)

Thanks for looking,

John, Very nice chair! Can't wait to see the figured cherry one!

One of my next projects is going to be a rocker. What type of glue do you use?

I have 120 hrs in this one. I spent a lot of extra time getting the visual weight of the back legs right to my eye. Reguardless these will always take me around 80-100 hrs to complete. It's a labor of love.

John, Very nice chair! Can't wait to see the figured cherry one!

One of my next projects is going to be a rocker. What type of glue do you use?

I use plastic resin glue for the rockers, seat glueup, and crest rail to back leg intersection. For the rest of the joints I use slow setting epoxy.

Thanks,

John

And they said furniture making was dead in Hickory NC. No way! That is simply gorgeous.:)

Maybe someday I'll learn to finish like that. Or maybe not.:o

Really nice. I love the grain in the seat, but the whole piece is outstanding.

What would a chair like this retail for? I would think that one would have to get at least $4K or so for it.
Since a little Maloof table fetches $52,000 at auction, a chair must get $200,000+!

They typically will bring $5000 from a gallery. I'll make them for $3k from a direct sale. In the right region they can bring $10k.
