After following the post from Liem Tran concerning his Jet lathe issue, I wanted to voice my pleasure with how the members of Sawmill Creek responded; Per Swenson for being the first to forward Liems problem along the right track, Tod Evens for his thoughtful insight and calm input, Ken Salisbury for his professional and articulate emails to involved parties, Frank Fusco and many others that also helped Liem out.
The international support that took place here, without bashing any manufacturer or retailer, was refreshing to see, and makes me think that just maybe cooler heads can still prevail on internet forums.

WELL DONE!!!

I second your "well done" for those mentioned (and others), but I must say your reading of the thread was a bit selective if you believe it was "without bashing any manufacturer or retailer": there was a lot of that going on. Quite frankly I was quite surprised the thread survived and wasn't simply "disappeared".

Believe me I gave it serious consideration, because of the bashing that was imbedded in the thread but decided to take part myself to see if I could lend a hand. Bashing is something some people take pleasure in.

If you re-visit the thread they have even started bashing me :) :D . But I am a big boy and have been bashed by experts and the amatuers don't bother me :). Besides, I need a laugh every now and then.

Moderating is a jugement call. I believe leaving the thread up was proper. Some would call truth bashing. Facts are hard to fault. I need no thanks. My old days as an editorial and opinion column writer just sometimes can't help themselves from popping up now and again. The written word and collective opinion are powerful tools.

Ken,

I just got done saying this in the other thread, I'll say it again here, you're a class act. We're fortunate to have you around.

You can't be "bash-full"....unless you become a moderator. 5 years doing it at another place "learned me" that!! :D And I agree with John...Ken is the finest!

Even though SMC bashing is fairly tame compared to some internet forums, I've still never understood why the same group of thread participants would probably behave entirely civil to each other if the same topic came up while running into each other at the lumber yard. But put these same folks behind a keyboard, and it No-Holds-Barred. Go Figger.

By the way - you seem to have a spelling problem in your Avatar title. Isn't it supposed to say "Sooper Moderator"?:D

I've gotta say........Ken and I have had a disagreement but he does a very hard job, IMO. He (and the other mods) get lots and lots of pay for it too. But I can say wholeheartedly.....Anytime Ken's in these parts, I'll be the first to buy him a big ol' double scoop of his favorite. WTG on the back door emailing to help Liem, Ken.

I agree with the other re Kens moderating, he's one fine fellow and I have the greatest respect for all of the guys who take the time to moderate these forum. If I were a mod I'da closed the thread as soon as the you guys thing started. I gave up on the thread and if the mods want to let it run its couse so be it but I'm not gonna waste my time reading that one any more. Geez. I thought we came here to learn and mentor about wood working not get into a peeing contest about who's right and who's wrong.

I think that about descrbies Ken pretty well. In my experience on a BMW forum that I moderate, less is usually more but then again we have an OT and a Political forum to look after, too....
