Travis was very generous with some of the Bradford Pear taken down by Hurricane Katrina that he was fortunate to get (Thanks you Travis);) . I think every piece turned of this tree has had some special features, and this is # 4 turned from this tree. This was a crotch piece that he gave me and every piece turned so far from this tree has had a void featured in it so I went along with the rest and utilized this feature too. It has some nice curl also, but I could not get it to show up as good in the picture as in real life.
It measures 5 1/4" tall x 9" wide finish is Gel Poly.

Jim..........Absolutely gorgeous! After having turned only a couple pieces of fruit wood.....and seeing what you Southern boys have been turning with fruit wood.......It could become my favorite general type of wood for the color and the figure in the wood!

Very nice hollow form Jim. I especially like the flat collar with this piece. I think it accents the inclusion very well. Well done!

Well done, Jim.

Looks like it was a challenging piece.

Praiseworthy!

Awesome bowl Jim! Interesting too, the name you gave it. There's a kind of double meaning there--the first being what you said, that it was from a tree felled by Katrina. But also, a hurricane might serve as a metaphor for a spinning bowl, the void symbolizing damage, and the overall beauty of the bowl symbolizing how a scarred land can recover and ultimately triumph.

I've tried hard to be jealous of work like this, but just can't bring myself to it. Great work Jim an awsome lump of wood an masterful execution in letting out the beauty of it. I have some small lumps of Bradford pear I can only hope it is a fraction as pretty as yours.

I don't know, Travis. You keep givin' stuff this good lookin' to great turners, like Jim Ketron, we're going to have to turn in our lathes and do (UGH) flat work!

Beautiful, as usual, Jim.
