I have a custom log wall unit to start in a few days and need to see what everyone thinks would be the best way to joint the top. It will be the only long piece in the unit. Dimensions: 14' 10" x 24". I will be using 8/4 white pine on the glue up. I have a DJ-20 jointer, but am wondering if that will be long enough. Any ideas or advise would be greatly appreciated, Reed

I'll assume you are talking about edge jointing and not face jointing. I use long lumber alot and from my experience it can be done if the edge is close to straight to begin with. If not, use a saw and straight edge to get it close. Carefully set up and use some type of support in front and back of the jointer. I also think you are better off without a helper because only you will have a feel for what you want to do with the wood.
