That's a great piece. I really like the curly grain! Keep up the good work.

Wow Kelly, that maple looks like it's electrified. The walnut's no slouch, either. Are you sure there aren't any batteries in that table? ;)

Great job.

Kelly,

Really nice job on the table. I like the combination of woods, and the figure is superb!

Ken and Bob, he says on his site that

"I finished it with hand rubbed Boiled Linseed Oil, then coated
with four coats of polyurethane. "

I finally decided to try BLO and it was a very easy process. I just rubbed it on and waited about ten minutes before wiping off the excess oil. I love the results and will be using BLO more often now.

The gloss poly was thinned 60/40 with the 40 being mineral spirits. I forgot about Naptha, may try that next. I put the first coat on and let it cure a day. Then I sanded with a 320 grit wetsand sponge. After removing the residue, I coated with poly again. Came back with some 2000 grit wetsand paper meant for automotive use before both the third and fourth coats.

This project has been more fun than anything I have done in years. I am happy with it and the wife is very happy...always a good thing right?

Oh Yeah...no batteries Vaughn! :D

Very nice. How long did you let the BLO dry before applying the Poly?

Kelly, blo has really brought out the grain and colour! The gloss certainly enhances it. I generally go for satin finish but this is a great argument for gloss.
Is the top solid wood center panel or veneer? Either way, are you tempting fate concering wood movement? Have you made some allowance such as floating center panel?
