Do you think they are just sold out right now, or is this item being discontinued? I was just about to purchase this model.

Does anyone else have the DW618? If so, how do you rate it?

Wayne,

Usually, when Amazon.com indicates that an item it has listed is not available or has been discontinued, it won't be available again for awhile (if ever). I did a quick search and found the item at:

http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/blac/dw618pk.htm?L+coastest+vfql4587ff410941+1064629348

Which is at Coastal Tool. Don't know if it's a good price or not. If it has been discontinued, there should be some decent deals out there on them some where.

Best of Luck,
Paul

Wayne, I can't imagine that the tool itself is no longer avialable...it must be an Amazon ordering/inventory thing. I have a review of the DW618K on my site if you are interested in my detailed comments...the bottom line...I really like it. I also just picked up the D-Handle base and it's a great option.

I have a 618PK set and I am very pleased with it. I really like the detachable cord and the fact that the motor is plated to elimiminate the need for waxing. I also like the fact that the motor doesn't rotate in the base, it also comes with a centering device for guides. Also included is a top notch super smooth plunge base with dust pick up through the column and two bases. Even the cord is special, a minor thing till you use one in cold weather and it gets hard as a rock. As you can tell, I like mine, forgot to say its very quiet with no runout in the collet, at least mine anyway. Also I would be surprised if it is discontinued, it's only been out a little more than a year. It's also equipped with Japanese bearings, not chinese ones that PC and Bosch are now using.

Jim,

How much did the D handle base set you back and where did you find one. I have been looking for one, not intensely, but looking! Thanks....

A&I had it, although I had to wait a month for them to deliver it. It was something like $89.

Interestingly enough, if I had purchased my DW618 Kit from A&I to begin with, I could have had the D-Handle for free once they were available, but I didn't find out about that deal until about month after my purchase from Amazon. I don't return tools once they are bought, so I didn't pursue it at the time.
