Thanks to this forum I got the "turning bug" earler this year and with LOML's blessing, began laying the groundwork to acquire nice powermatic lathe by this summer (I decided on this route rather than getting a mini lathe and then going through all the "upgrade" stages). Anyway, to make a long story short, life has recently thown us a curveball, and a big lathe purchase (as well as lessons from Bill Grumbine) is out of the question for the time being. But, anyway, I've found that I really enjoy cutting up bowl blanks from trees on our mountain land (26 acres), even though I don't have a use for them...yet.
