Mark Cothren sent me this chunk of Silver Poplar. (Thanks Mark!;) )
I couldn't wait to get it on the lathe! I was amazed at the figuring once I got it roughed, and even more so when I put the 1st coat of Watco on it.:D
I showed Mark a pic before I buffed it and he made the comment that it looked like a smoking fire :D . 9" diameter by 5 1/2" tall.

You're right, it does look hot. And someone better warn the occupants to scram before they get too toasty.

Aw heck, Travis... I sent you the wrong piece of wood. This one was supposed to go to somebody else - - - ME....:D So if you wouldn't mind sending it back to Conway, AR I'll get this little chunk of Pine sent off to you...;)

Man, that is one FANTASTIC piece of wood! Whoever got some of that stuff Dennis brought to TN, it's from the same tree. You need to turn it.

Travis, you did good again. Looks great!

WOW...how does someone know that something like that is in a piece of wood? Or is it just luck if it's found?

That is amazing and the shape of the........bowl?.......vase?.....piece accentuates to grain perfect.

Well done.

First piece of silver poplar I ever saw. I expect all the other I see to look like that. I have heard of silver maple, but not silver poplar. This is one more good looking piece of wood and HF, and I appreciate you sharring it with us with this post.

Travis, you have truly brought out the beauty in that wood. Oh goodness... It truly does look like a smouldering fire. That one's a keeper---or a $1,000+ sale to a collector.

Stunning, unusual and skillfully executed as usual. I love everything about it except the name...I'd call it "Inferno". :)
