Maybe someone can explain the difference between Pink Tasmanian Myrtle Burl and Rose Tasmanian Myrtle Burl..... I don't know if there is a difference or if it is just a marketing ploy to sucker us woodturners in....;)

Anyway, it has been a while since I have posted anything in the turning forum as I have been busy working on some other things. Almost three months ago I rough turned this very wet piece of Rose Tasmanian Myrtle Burl and soaked it in alcohol and then let it dry. It kept calling to me until I could stand it no more and I had to rip the paper off and finish turn this box. As with all burls there are good sides, bad sides, cracks, birdseye, curl and color variations. This box has all of that and more. I am just glad it stayed together with all the cracks that are in it.

It finished up at 3 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/4" tall. Might be good for some paper clips or something.....:D

Gorgeous, Mike. I had a piece of PTMB a while back. Turned like butter, and exploded like jiffy pop. Well done.

Very nice Mike! I love that. Is Pink Myrtle burl the same thing as Pink Tasmanian Myrtle Burl? I have some pen blanks that are labled pink myrtle.

Mr. Big Mike, your box making abilities, by all standards exceed those of us mere mortal boxmakers, and this box just raises the bar that much higher. Thanks for your inspiration.

Well, the one I got from you is better (and probably always will be), but this is certainly a fine job Big Mike. Nice wood too.

Pretty box, Michael, and nice ratio of top to bottom. Since "rose" is the French word for "pink", I'd bet the two wood species are the same.

First of all, thank goodness the Creek is back so I can read all these nice responses.

"Is Pink Myrtle burl the same thing as Pink Tasmanian Myrtle Burl?" Corey, I don't know the answer but my guess would be yes.

"Working on a deck will do that to a fella ." Barry, that is funny.....:D

"Since "rose" is the French word for "pink", I'd bet the two wood species are the same." Joe, I bet you are right, but rose sure sounds better to me...;)
Travis likes pink I have heard somewhere.....

Thanks again for all the nice responses. I went out of town the day after I posted the pics so I did not get to see them until today. I do appreciate the kind words.
