Well here is another maple box I made and did some inlays. The top and diamonds are redheart. It is finished in lacquer. It is 4 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" across. It turned out a lot better than I thought it was going to. Had some fun putting in the diamond inlays. This is my best one next to the walnut one I made.

Bernie,
Love the box. Glad my wife doesn't look on here or I'd be having to try and make her one. Great color combo and I like the spacing on the diamonds also. Brian

Thanks everyone for the comments. I looked at the first box I did and at this one plus the walnut one. It is amazing how it has come together and gotten better. I still look at Big Mike's boxes for inspiration and idea's. I may catch up with him in about 15 or 20 yrs. The next one I want to try with the white maple is a walnut inlay of some kind. See what happens.

Brian the spacing wasn't hard as I still had it in the chuck so used the center of each jaw to place the diamonds. It was a ball to do even though it was more work. By the way this is a gift and almost had to wrestle the SWMBO for it.

Ken I think Corey is the newest in the box end. I have made probably 15 or so. I think Corey has made one or two. Not sure may be more.

Very, very nice Bernie!
Terrific use of constrasting woods! How the heck do you do those nice inlays, anyway???

Frank I used a dremel tool with a small bit and a hone wood chisel. The sharp wood chisel gave me the clean edges. The redheart is just a pen blank turned to form a diamond and fitted to the opening. Worked pretty slick and like I said turned out better than I thought. Hope this helps.

Bernie, what a unique idea to do inlays in the way you did. Certainly opens a whole new realm of possibilities. I would never think about doing anything like that. I guess it is hard for me to think outside the box.....:o

Thanks again for the comments. Good to have SMC back up. Big Mike I got some more idea's I am going to try concerning the inlays. They were a little more work but fun to do. This one is a gift now I have to make the LOML one.
