Has anyone ever tried turning driftwood? Are there any pics? Thanks:)

One of the other turners in this area has turned all kinds of things from driftwood. The thing he likes best about it it that he doesn't even bother to put a finish on the pieces since a good deal of the turning shows the natural outside as he found it. Makes for fast turning and people seem to really like the pieces. Sorry but I don't have any photos of his work.

I have heard it can be hard on tools because the wood picks up sand. But, I have seen carvings from driftwood. The soaking/aging/drying/etc. does do interesting things to the appearance of the wood.

I have a pic of a bowl made of driftwood manzanita root burl in my site. It is a challenge since it has lots of cracks and each is filled with sand and some rocks. Take a look if you are interested.

I have 2 pics of it in my IAP album
