Now that Noah is into turning mushrooms I will share a tip for sanding the caps or bottoms after you part them off. Mounted to a small faceplate I trued up a piece of plywood to fit a 5" hook and loop sanding disc. I found an old thin mouse pad with a plastic face and using contact cement glued the rubber side to the plywood. I had to press it in a vice until the glue set. Stick self adheisive hook to the plastic side of the pad. Mount your favorite hook and loop paper and go to town.

Hey Terry, now that IS a cool idea! Simple, yet sophisticated at the same time. Thanks for the tip!

Terry,
Make another one, but omit the mouse pad foam. Now you've got a quick way to sharpen without a grinder. Gives a flat bevel too, if you're into that sort of thing.
